To reassure folk - registration is not automatic on this site - someone can sign up (and will then appear in the memberlist) but can not read or post in anything other than 'The Garden Gate' section until I authorise them.

However, as already mentioned, they will show up in the memberlist - for your own protection PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON THE WEBSITE LINK OF NEW 'MEMBERS' [unless said member has been welcomed in the Garden Path forum or has introduced themselves and are obviously not 'spammers'].
Stay safe - don't press buttons peace

You weren't the only one Jade - the Garden gets several of these spam members every day and night... I'm usually around to delete them before everyone sees them, but I was away (trying to have a mini holiday!! grrrr) Evil or Very Mad

Bless you Jade Embarassed Very Happy

Zenwind is busy helping clear the unwanted spammers off the board too... (Thank you lovely one!!)
You may also noticed that I've 'closed' the Garden Gate for now (as in only registered members can post, although it is can be read by non-registered members... unlike the rest of the site which is completely closed to non-members) This will stop the spammers posting in the Garden Gate forum, then it's just the unwanted members to delete... by that I mean the porn and general spam linking 'new members'... and as I mentioned before, they can't read or post in the forum anyway... so just don't click on their links Very Happy

Also... and I know you all mean well... but there's really no need to pm to let me know there are unwanted members joining up - just ignore them (they can't do anything) and enjoy your time in the Garden Very Happy
peace

The general public can read (but not post) in 'The Garden Gate section' ONLY - they can not read or post in any other part of the forum...

New users can also read (but not post) in 'The Garden Gate section' ONLY - and can not do anything else until I activate their account.... (obviously if they are not 'real members' I do not activate their account, they are just deleted)

Only activated accounts / members can read and post in the main parts of the Garden forum...

Try it - next time you visit, don't log in but click on all the forums in turn and you will notice that whilst you can get into 'The Garden Gate' to read, you won't be able to post... and if you try to get into any of the other forums, 'The Garden Path' for example, you will be asked to log-in...
Hope that answered your question Very Happy

You shouldn't be able see the actual email addresses - members and non-members will see the 'email' button, but once clicked it takes you through to a page where you can send an email to that member, at no point will it display the email address.

Unfotunately, yes, you anyone can see the memberlist... I don't think it's possible to hide that with this version of PHP Forums.... I'll look into updating to the next version, but it may wipe out all existing posts Sad which I didn't really want to do...

Correction - if a non-member clicks on the 'email' button it will ask them to log-in - so only members can use the onboard email link (and even the members still won't see the actual email address).
Just to clarify - non-members can NOT use the email facility. Smile

There are a few non-members who, for some reason, I can not delete from the memberlist.

* PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON THEIR WWW / WEB LINKS *

Rest assured that these 'members' can not actually get into the forum, their accounts are not active.... so if you see a member on the list with a posting number of 0 just ignore them. They're not real Smile
